How do Direct Payments work?
The payments are made directly to you by the Local Authority so you can fund the care and support services that you need instead of some or all of the support or services that otherwise would be arranged for you. This gives you the opportunity to review other Care Service Providers in your local area and puts you in control of who provides your personalised homecare services.
Q : Do I Need to employ somebody myself?
A : You can employ staff directly, or for your peace of mind you could choose a professional care provider that listens to you and creates a bespoke service to meet your needs.
Q : How do I manage the Direct Payments?
A : All you need is a separate bank account so the money you receive for your care can be kept separate. You will need to keep a record of how the money is being spent. If a person lacks capacity to request direct payment, an “authorised person” can request the payment and manage this on their behalf.
Q : What if I am already receiving Care Services as arranged by my Local Authority?
